President Joe Biden has nominated three career prosecutors to take over as the U.S. Attorneys for three of the four districts in Texas. All three are expected to receive confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
For the Northern District of Texas, which includes Dallas, the White House has nominated Leigha Simonton. She has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney in that office since 2005.
For the Southern District of Texas, the nominee is Alamdar Hamdani. He has been a prosecutor there since 2014 and previously served as Deputy Chief of the Counterterrorism Section of the National Security Division at the Department of Justice. The Southern District has its headquarters in Houston but also covers Laredo and McAllen.
For the Western District of Texas, the President has nominated Jaime Esparza to be the U.S. Attorney. He previously served as the District Attorney for El Paso County. The Western District includes El Paso, Austin and San Antonio.
A statement from the White House says the three nominees "were chosen for their devotion to enforcing the law, their professionalism, their experience and credentials, their dedication to pursuing equal justice for all, and their commitment to the independence of the Department of Justice".
