Poison control centers received more than 52,000 calls about children taking too much melatonin last year, according to a new report.

That number is six times higher in the last 10 years.

The majority of the calls were for children who just happened to get into their parents' bottles. Those bottles are often just left on the nightstand for easy access for the parents to get to sleep at night.

Dr. Michelle Carraballo, a pediatric sleep specialist at Children's Health in Dallas, joined Ask the Expert on Friday.
