Widespread storm damage left in North Texas from strong overnight thunderstorms

Dangerous, damaging storms rocked through North Texas beginning Thursday evening and continuing into Friday morning.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth reports numerous hail stones from the size of quarters to golf balls from the Red River as far south as Collin County, with some even larger hail reported as well.

In Cooke County, there was a 76 mph wind gust in Gainesville. In Fannin County, near Savoy, emergency management confirms a tree fell through the roof of an RV at the Savoy RV Park.

Grayson County emergency management reports a two foot diameter tree down on a house on Sherman. And in Whitesboro, the fire department reports 30 inch diameter trees down.

Denton County reported five inch hail in Sanger. Collin County emergency management confirms downed trees, at least one structure fire and a pump station lost power in Anna.

Also, in Lavon a 78 mph wind gust was reported along with several trees down and several structures damaged.

The storms also caused some heavy damage in Gainesville where a building that houses several businesses along Highway 82 had its roof torn off. There are also numerous reports of downed trees and power lines in and around Gainesville.
