The American Red Cross is issuing warnings following the winter storm after it made the ongoing blood shortage that much worse.

Maria Martineau with Medical City Healthcare says their hospitals throughout the Metroplex will be conducting a number of blood drives in the coming weeks to help out.

"14 of our Medical City Healthcare Hospitals are going to be helping out," Martineau said. "Over the next several weeks are going to be holding blood drives."

The Red Cross says the winter storm forced cancelations of blood drives in nearly every state where they collect blood.

"Every two seconds in the U.S., someone needs blood and just one donation can help save three lives," she said. "We hope that during those drives, we will be able to collect many, many units of blood."
