With Excessive Heat Warnings posted all over Texas today, Prosper firefighters and Cook Children's Medical Center in Prosper are teaming up to remind parents and other caregivers of the deadly dangers of hot cars.

On Monday, firefighters provided a demonstration of their techniques for rescuing a child trapped inside a car with temperatures skyrocketing.

Speakers included Prosper Fire Chief Stuart Blasingame, Viviana Esparza from Cook Children’s Center for Community Health and Doctor Meena Guirguis, an emergency department physician at Cook Children's in Prosper.

The lessons they imparted are that young children are especially at risk for heatstroke, or hyperthermia,  because their bodies heat up three to five times faster than an adult's.

And because cars heat up so quickly, a tragedy can happen faster than you think.
