A 35-year-old woman died on Monday while in custody of the Tarrant County Jail, officials said. It is the third in-custody death at the jail since March.
Jailers found Chasity Bonner unresponsive in her cell at the Tarrant County Jail at about 9:15 a.m. on Monday, according to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office. She was examined, refused treatment, and asked to go back to her cell.
Staffers found Bonner unresponsive again just before 11 a.m. and began life-saving measures, including administering Narcan, which is used to counteract opioid overdoses, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Bonner was taken by MedStar to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth, where she was pronounced dead.
She had been in jail since May 16 on a theft charge and a parole violation out of North Richland Hills.
The death comes as a group is already calling for the resignation of Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn over the death of Anthony Johnson at the jail in April. The case will be investigated by an outside law enforcement agency and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
