Woman wounded in uptown Dallas shooting

A woman is in the hospital with a serious chest wound after being caught in the line-of-fire of a shooting in uptown Dallas overnight.

Around midnight, the victim was leaving work when gunfire erupted on a stretch of McKinney Avenue between Hall and Lemmon.

The victim was hurt so badly that police did not wait for an ambulance. Police put the woman in a squad car and raced her to the hospital. Her condition has not been released.

Back at the scene, police spoke to potential witnesses and scoured the street for evidence. They photographed and gathered up 10 or 12 spent shell casings from the sidewalk and gutter in front of Primo's, a Tex-Mex restaurant that fronts on McKinney.

The search for the shooter is on, but no arrests so far.
