There are worries that north Texas could be looking at another wave of Coronavirus infections, now that our behavior has been changing over the last few weeks.
UT Southwestern put out a new forecast for COVID over the month of April. The numbers look to be going up again.
On today's Ask the Expert, we're joined by Dr. Mujeeb Basit, associate director of UT Southwestern's Clinical Informatics Center.
UT Southwestern is predicting a mild wave of COVID for north Texas, not "dire". He also says north Texans are getting a little bit more lax when it comes to maintaining social distancing.
He says we also need to make sure that we have the personal responsibility to wear our masks, even though Texas has removed the mandate to do that. He points to the Texas Rangers' opening day baseball game at Globe Life Field. He says we're close, but the country isn't at the finish line yet.
Dr. Basit also says one misconception against vaccinations is people say, "I've already had COVID, I don't need a vaccination". That's not true. The vaccine is able to keep you safe from the variants as well as the original COVID.
