A Wylie man has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police say he intentionally struck another man with his vehicle during an argument, leaving the victim critically injured.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of a commercial building on Security Court, according to the Wylie Police Department.
An officer in the area was flagged down by a person outside a nearby business who reported that two vehicles had been racing. When the officer arrived, a 20-year-old man had just been struck by a vehicle and was suffering from an apparent head injury.
The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Detectives determined the victim and the suspect had been involved in an argument before the incident. According to investigators, the victim got out of his vehicle, and the suspect, identified as Rene Padilla, then intentionally hit him with a vehicle.
Padilla was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police have not released additional information about the circumstances leading to the argument or whether Padilla has obtained legal representation. The investigation remains ongoing.
