(WWJ) — Earlier this month, we got word that a fast food fan favorite will be making a return in 2025: the McDonald’s Snack Wraps.
While we don’t know exactly when, McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger told ABC’s “Good Morning America” the beloved menu item featuring grilled or crispy chicken would be coming back in the New Year.
That news has sparked a conversation about discontinued fast food items of years gone by. So here are six that we’d like to see make a comeback in 2025.
McDonald’s Chicken Selects
We’ll start with another chicken favorite from the Golden Arches — the Chicken Selects. Sure, Chicken McNuggets are a beloved item, but these chicken strips that were on the menu from 2002-2013 were on another level.
Burger King’s Chicken Whopper
This one was pretty much exactly like it sounds — the iconic Whopper, with a grilled chicken breast instead of a burger, minus the ketchup and onions. The Chicken Whopper was introduced in 2002, but soon lost popularity.
BK Stacker
Speaking of Burger King, let’s revisit the BK Stacker, which had a glorious run from the late 2000s through 2011. The burger was sold in single, double, triple or quadruple variants, featuring cheese and bacon on each layer. Is this the healthiest option? Absolutely not. But was it good? You bet.
Jimmy John’s Frenchie
This may be the most obscure item on the list here. The Frenchie, introduced in 2019, had salami, capicola and salted butter on a thinner version of its standard French bread, a take on the popular French jamon-beurre sandwich. The sandwiches were pre-made and wrapped in special black-and-white checkered paper and a plastic sleeve. The Frenchie was short lived, as it was discontinued by the spring of 2020.
Wendy’s Superbar — and their famous “sun rooms”
Ok, this one is pretty unrealistic, but there’s just something so nostalgic about the Wendy’s salad bar, which featured not just ingredients for salad, but just about anything you could imagine. That includes the “Mexican” section with taco shells, rice and beans, and the “Italian” section featuring multiple pasta and sauce options, along with breadsticks.
And nothing beats the old “atrium” or “sun rooms” at the front of the restaurants that made it feel like more of a treat than just fast food.
McDonald’s All-Day breakfast
Lastly, let’s be honest. We’ve all pulled into a McDonald’s drive-thru craving a Sausage McMuffin or a breakfast burrito a little after 11 a.m., only to realize it was already lunch time. McDonald’s has some great breakfast options — especially the hashbrowns — and it would sure be nice to have the choice any time of day. McDonald’s began offering all-day breakfast in 2015, but it was discontinued in 2020.
