A 64-year-old woman was arrested Monday after police reportedly found her mother’s body stored in a refrigerator.

According to ABC 7, officers with the Riverside Police Department performed a welfare check Sunday morning after out-of-state relatives expressed concern for the 87-year-old woman, who had not been heard from for some time.

Police spoke with the the woman's daughter, whose name has not yet been released. They were reportedly living together at the time. An officer said the daughter was arrested after there were “some inconsistencies with her story as to her mom's whereabouts.”

During a search inside the home, officers found the body inside a refrigerator in the garage.

Investigators are working to figure out if the woman died of natural causes prior to being put into the refrigerator, KTLA has reported.

Neither the victim nor the daughter have been identified publicly. The woman's daughter was later released by police after questioning.
