A passenger on an American Airlines plane is facing criminal charges for trying to open the cabin doors in the middle of the flight.

Federal prosecutors say 26-year-old Eric Nicholas Gapco of New Jersey was on an American Airlines flight from Seattle that was headed to DFW Airport last month...when he began acting strangely.

They say he propositioned a flight attendant for sex, locked himself in the bathroom and also tried several times to open the plane's outside door in the middle of the air.

The flight was diverted to Salt Lake City. He's been indicted by a federal grand jury there on a charge of interference with a flight crew and a charge of attempted damage to an aircraft.
