Celebrate National Root Beer Float Day

Looking to cool off?  Why not grab a float and celebrate National Root Beer Float Day today.

A root beer float, in case you don't know, is a scoop of vanilla ice cream floated on top of a glass of frothy root beer.

Stories differ about how the root beer floats started. Some historians say the treat dates back to 1874, in Philadelphia, when Robert Green ran out of ice at his soda shop so he tried chilling sodas with ice cream instead. People loved it.

The drink was originally called a Black Cow. The concoction is being celebrated today. A&W restaurants are offering free root beer floats Friday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. just stop by and ask for one!

Wienerschnitzel restaurants are offering free floats with purchase, but you have to redeem a coupon from their website.
