A Florida middle school briefly went into lockdown after an automated weapons-detection system mistakenly flagged a student's clarinet as a possible gun in a school hallway.
School officials say the alert triggered an immediate response until staff and police quickly confirmed there was no threat and that all students and employees were safe.
The incident happened during the school day as students were moving through the building, prompting administrators to follow standard safety protocols. Law enforcement was called to the campus and cleared the scene within a short time.
Officials say the lockdown was lifted once it became clear the object was a musical instrument and not a weapon. No injuries were reported, and classes resumed normally after the all-clear was given.
School leaders noted the system worked as designed by alerting staff to a potential threat, even though the alert turned out to be a false alarm. They emphasized that safety procedures remain a priority and that the situation was resolved quickly and without incident.
