Duane Roberts, the California businessman credited with inventing the world’s first frozen burrito, has died at the age of 88.

TMZ reports Roberts passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday.

Roberts began his career at just 19 years old with Butcher Boy Food Products, where he spotted the growing potential of quick, convenient meals in postwar America.

In 1956, he created the first frozen burrito, a product that would go on to transform the frozen food industry and become a staple of grocery store aisles across the country.

Though he never patented the idea and sold the rights to other companies, Roberts built a successful career in food manufacturing and later expanded into real estate and hospitality.

He was also known for restoring the historic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in Riverside, California, a landmark that remains one of his lasting legacies.
