Three people have been left dead after a Florida driver crashed a stolen vehicle into an Uber while driving the wrong way on a Florida bridge.

The Florida Highway Patrol shared that the crash happened the night of Dec. 6 on I-275 at the Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg.

Troopers were assisting the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office regarding a stolen Ford Mustang that they had unsuccessfully attempted to stop.

22-year-old Leosvany Roman was identified as the driver of the vehicle, which allegedly crashed into two sheriff’s vehicles before fleeing the scene of the traffic stop, the sheriff’s office shared.

After fleeing, Roman allegedly led the officers on a chase, during which he collided with a Florida Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle before turning around and ramming it again. After hitting it the second time, Roman sped off, smashing into a Dodge caravan head-on.

The highway patrol confirmed that the driver of the caravan was an Uber driver. They were pronounced dead, along with one of the three passengers at the scene. A second passenger died at a local hospital from her injuries.

“This criminal had no regard for human life. Our deputies, facing danger, had to jump out of the way of a man they feared would run them over to get away,” HCSO Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “The additional charges he faces will ensure the only road he’s ever on again is the one that leads straight to jail.”

The highway patrol said it could not confirm whether or not the driver was working for Uber at the time of the crash, and the company shared in a statement with Fox News that it “does not appear to be connected to the Uber platform.”

Roman has been charged with felony murder, aggravated fleeing and eluding involving death, vehicular homicide, driving while license suspended involving death, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
