FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- Tuesday in a Fort Worth federal courtroom a former Los Angeles Angels employee was sentenced to 22 years in prison for providing Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs the drugs that led to his overdose death in a Southlake Hotel room.

The Angels were supposed to open a four-game series against the
Rangers on July 1, 2019 the day Skaggs was found dead. Former communications director Eric Kay was convicted on one count each of drug distribution resulting in death and drug conspiracy.

Skaggs's family released a statement saying Tuesday's sentencing isn't about the number of years he received --- it's about holding people accountable who are distributing the deadly drug fentanyl.

Eric Kay showed no sign he was sorry -- as was demonstrated by jailhouse recordings of phone calls with his mother. In one case, they were talking about Skaggs' own mother.
