War of Words? Governor Tim Walz and President Trump continue back-and-forth

Earlier this week Walz said he could "kick their ass" and Friday Trump called the Minnesota governor a "loser"

We're long past the 2024 Presidential Election, where now President Trump and Vice President JD Vance ended up in the White House, defeating Democrats Kamala Harris, and her VP pick, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

But that is not slowing down the war of words between Walz and the sitting president who are at it again this week with President Trump responding Friday to comments made by Walz.

Minnesota's governor recently appeared on the "This is Gavin Newsom" podcast. Newsom is the Democratic governor of California.

Walz was talking to Newsom about Trump and his supporters, attacking his "masculinity" during last year's election.

"I do think I could kick most of their ass," Walz declared. "I know I can outrun them, but I don't know if we're gonna fall into that place where we want to, OK, we challenge you to a WWE fight here type of thing."

At an Oval Office press briefing on Friday, President Trump was asked about it the comments from Walz tossing back a volley of his own.

"Well, he's a loser, you know, I mean the guy's a loser," said Trump. "He lost an election. He played a part, you know? Usually a vice president doesn't play a part, they say. I think Tim played a part. I think he was so bad that he hurt her (Harris), but she hurt herself and Joe (Biden) hurt them both. They didn't have a great group, but I would probably put him at the bottom of the group."

The back-and-forth didn't end there either, with Walz responding through a campaign email.

"President Trump just called me a 'loser' while hosting a press conference in the Oval Office. I’ll admit, it made me laugh. But it’s also a sad reminder of who our President is.

That’s what life is all about for this guy: Pretending to be a big shot. And the entire country is paying the price for his insecurity.

Donald Trump doesn’t care who he hurts as long as he feels special. Everything he’s doing – dismantling the Department of Education, attacking people for who they are and who they love, and picking unnecessary trade wars that are raising costs for working families – is about one thing: his ego.

Well, I don’t give a damn if I hurt his feelings. There’s too much at stake right now. Public education, Social Security, and our fundamental rights, freedoms, and values are all on the line, and I’m not going to sit by quietly.

I’m raising my voice and hosting town halls, making sure that people who aren’t named Donald Trump and Elon Musk have a say in our future. But I can’t do it alone."

There's also been back-and-forth with Elon Musk, the billionaire advisor to Trump and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, with Walz saying at a town hall in Wisconsin he was looking at Tesla's company’s stock drops to "boost his mood."

While Walz has said, including on WCCO Radio, he has no intentions of running for President in 2028 and is focused on Minnesota, he continues to lean into a more national profile, appearing on MSNBC with Rachel Maddow Thursday night and going on a multi-stop tour of town halls in competitive congressional districts represented by Republicans across the Midwest.

Walz has not fully committed to running for governor again in 2028 either, though he has acknowledged they're exploring the possibility of a third term.
