Have Republicans turned on Marjorie Taylor Greene?

It seems like even her fellow “MAGA” Republicans have turned on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) following a spat she had with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.).

POLITICO reported Thursday that Greene had even been kicked out of the House Freedom Caucus after calling Boebert a “little b****” on the House floor. Per the Daily Beast, they were fighting over competing resolutions to impeach President Joe Biden.

According to Rolling Stone, the caucus is “MAGA-loving,” indicating its members support former President Donald Trump. In 2015, the Pew Research Center reported on the somewhat secretive caucus, which did not reveal the names of its 36 members. Its meetings are not public and membership is invitation only.

“Ideologically speaking, they’re among the most conservative of House Republicans, though not all are on the rightmost end of the spectrum,” said Pew. It said that while small, the group made up an important voting bloc.

Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) confirmed Thursday that “a vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done.”

Greene has often been embroiled in controversies. Some of them include: her plan to visit Capitol rioters in prison, supporting a man who leaked classified documents, blaming Biden for fentanyl deaths, calling for a “national divorce” along party lines, a bizarre speech referencing sex toys, connections to the QAnon conspiracy theory and backlash over tweets about cancer.

However, it appears that her spat with Boebert was the last straw for some of her fellow Republicans.

“I think the straw that broke the camel’s back was publicly saying things about another member in terms that no one should,” said Harris, according to POLITICO. According to the outlet, this is the first time a member has been booted from the caucus.

This “reflects the group’s increasing level of frustration with Greene,” it said.

In addition to her clashes with Boebert, Greene has also “closely allied herself with Speaker Kevin McCarthy this year, lining up against many Freedom Caucus members when she supported both his rocky speakership bid and his debt deal with President Joe Biden,” POLITICO explained.

According to the outlet, a Freedom Caucus spokesperson said the group doesn’t comment on membership or internal processes. Greene also did did not appear to address her status with the Freedom Caucus directly.

“In Congress, I serve Northwest Georgia first, and serve no group in Washington,” she said in a Thursday statement.

“Avoiding distractions is the key to staying focused,” she also said in a Thursday tweet.
