HOUSTON (1080 KRLD)- Houston police chief Art Acevedo says an off-duty HPD patrol officer took part in last week's breach of the US Capitol.

The chief says he received a complaint on Sunday showing the officer holding the Trump flag at the protest in Washington, DC. .

Acevedo says he contacted the FBI. He says the officer was determined to have penetrated the Capitol and has been placed on administrative leave and is set to have a disciplinary hearing on Friday.

"There is no excuse for criminal activity, especially from a police officer. I can't tell you the anger I feel at the thought of a police officer and other police officers thinking they get to go storm the Capitol."

He says there's a high probability this individual will face federal charges and would be surprised if he showed up to the hearing.

Acevedo believes the 18-year-veteran traveled alone.

Acevedo is furious. "As an American, when I saw the Confederate flag in the Capitol rotunda, that angered me. And the thought of off-duty police officers participating in that, I can't tell you what that does to me and what it should do to everyone here."
