Meet the chef behind the delicious cuisine in the new Apple TV series 'Lessons In Chemistry'

Set in the 1950s, the new Apple TV+ series 'Lessons in Chemistry' follows Elizabeth Zott (played by Brie Larson), as she navigates through a patriarchal society with the dream of being a successful scientist.

Elizabeth, who is nothing like the typical '50s housewife, takes a job hosting a TV cooking show after being fired from her job. In her new role, she captivates an audience of underrepresented housewives, teaching them a lot more than just recipes.

An integral part of the story in 'Lessons in Chemistry' is the cuisine. The mastermind behind the delicious dishes seen throughout the series is Courtney McBroom, a chef and cookbook author. She served as the food consultant for the series, crafting and perfecting each dish to ensure they're ready to appear onscreen.

Courtney joined KRLD's What to Watch team to talk about her experience working on the series.

What was it like working on this series?

It was so much fun. It was my first time working on film. I'd done cookbooks before, like photo shoots, but never film, and there was definitely a learning curve, but I caught up quickly and um, it was amazing because it was a whole team of people.

Like I've worked in restaurants before and the focus is just the food, right? But on the set with the film, food was just one part of it, of the much larger
story that needed to be told. And I was working with the best of the best
producers, actors, set design, and it was such an amazing thing to be a part of.

I felt very lucky and very special to get to be there.

Do you have any advice for aspiring culinary artists or chefs right now who want to take their talent to TV or movies?

It's not always easy to carve your own path. And I think that's what you kind of have to do, no matter what. And like, and Elizabeth Zott is a perfect example of that. The way that she stood up in her tenacity. The way that she had her conviction of who she was as a person and kept doing what she knew she needed to do even though she kept having roadblocks all along the way.

And I think if you're, if you have a dream and you want to follow that, you're
gonna hit roadblocks. What are you gonna do about it? Are you gonna
give up? Are you gonna just keep going? Are you gonna pivot and go a little bit different way down the path? That's all you can do, right?
