Halloween candy isn't safe for your pets but pumpkins are.
Pumpkin isn't just a tasty treat for dogs and cats, it is also very healthy. It's nutritious, low in calories and rich in fiber. Vets say it's fine to toss your pets pieces of pumpkin while you're carving them, but make sure they are getting small pieces of the soft flesh, not the hard outer rind.
The rind can be hard to chew and could cause your pet to choke. They also advice not to give them too much as it could upset their tummy.
If you're not carving pumpkins but want to treat your pet, canned pumpkin is OK as long as it has no added sugar. Some sugar can be toxic, especially for dogs.
