Q&A: MLB ready for 'Field Of Dreams' game

Will the corn be in play?

It is one of the most popular questions as the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees get ready for Thursday night's regular-season game at the iconic "Field of Dreams" site in Dyersville, Iowa.

The game at the location made famous in the classic 1989 film was originally scheduled for last year, but was postponed as a result of the pandemic.

In Dyersville - population 4,225 - KDST-FM News/Sports Director Matt Monahan said the farmers who maintain the cornfield have been working meticulously under the scrupulous eye of Major League Baseball officials to make sure the setup is perfect.  The corn will come right up to the outfield fence, but the stalks are being trimmed hour-by-hour ahead of the game.  Monahan said one special ground rule says if a fielder's glove touches any part of the corn before making contact with a ball in play, it will be a home run.  MLB officials hope to avoid any such controversies.

The White Sox and Yankees are scheduled to land at the airport in nearby Dubuque today, and take shuttles to the Dyersville site.

Monahan discussed ticket prices and final preparations for the "Field of Dreams" game with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
