Since a gunman opened fire at former President Donald Trump on July 13 as he held a rally as part of his bid to win back the Presidency, the Secret Service has been searching for ways to keep him safe during his outdoor campaign stops.

Now they say, they plan to add more agents to the detail by pulling them from the team that protects current President Joe Biden.

The new protection plan also calls for a bulletproof glass shield to be placed in front of Trump while he’s speaking to his supporters.

A source within the Secret Service speaking to the New York Times called the new protocols “unusual” but “necessary and feasible.”

The added manpower was made possible by a reduced travel schedule for President Biden now that he is no longer campaigning for a second term in the White House.

No public comments have been made by the Trump campaign on the additional protections as of yet. Trump had his ear grazed by a bullet from a gunman who shot and killed a firefighter who had been behind Trump at the July 13 rally. The gunman was also killed by Secret Service gunfire.

A motive for the shooting has yet to be revealed.
