A disaster relief organization established in 2022 after the Eastland fire is now in full gear, trying to help those affected by the wildfire roaring through Texas.
Brian Firebaugh with Rancher Navy is among those working to save the lives of as many cattle as possible. He shared that help from anyone who can give it is needed.
"What it is that I am immediately focused on is providing immediate support to these ranchers in order to help out their cattle to get them through… the next few months," Firebaugh said.
Brian, who's from DFW, is on the ground in the panhandle. He says that the situation is bleak.
"The thing that we need to get them the most is hay," Firebaugh said.
Firebaugh shared that because the earth is scorched, it's going to take time to start growing new feed grass for the animals.
Depending on the weather, it's going to be at least three months before food for the cattle is grown. In the meantime, ranchers can't allow the cattle on their land until the grass becomes usable for cattle feed once again.
Now, there is an emerging need for semi trucks that can carry bales of hay and truckers who can bring it to the burned-out ranches across the Texas panhandle.
