Trump, Vance and Texas react to passenger jet collision with military helicopter in DC

Texas is reacting to the American Airlines jet collision in DC, Wednesday night. The passenger jet collided with an army helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington.

The incident was confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration just after 9 p.m. The incident involved American Airlines Flight 5342, with 60 passengers and four crew members onboard. The plan was traveling to D.C. from Wichita, Kansas, where several of the passengers were competing in the US Figure Skating Championships.

The helicopter was carrying three soldiers at the time of the collision.

“I have been fully briefed on the terrible accident which just took place at Reagan National Airport. May God Bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work being done by our first responders. I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details as they arise.”

Vice President JD Vance took to X earlier in the night. His post reads in part, "We're monitoring the situation, but for now let's hope for the best."

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth did take to X to say the department is ready to assist.

Among the first in Texas to react to all that is happening is Senator Ted Cruz. Saying in part, "Please join Heidi and me in praying for all involved as the search and rescue is underway."

Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne also shared a post on X. "Praying for all on board and our first responders."

Others include congressmen Chip Roy and Representative Michael McCaul.

Following after all of this, President Trump gave his remarks on the crash Thursday morning.
