A British treasure hunter is being credited with uncovering what may be the largest collection of Roman coins ever found in Wales - and he guarded them for three days by sleeping in his car.

David Moss, 36, discovered the hoard in two clay pots while metal detecting in a field in North Wales.

Experts estimate the pots could hold between 10,000 and 15,000 coins dating back nearly two thousand years.

Archaeologists say such hoards were often buried for safekeeping during periods of political unrest, but many were never recovered.

The find is now being studied and verified by the U.K. government’s Treasure Valuation Committee, which will determine its historical and financial value.
