One of the prevailing questions heading into the 2024 Presidential election has been whether or not there comes a point when a candidate is considered too old to lead the nation.
At 80, President Joe Biden is already the oldest to ever serve as America’s Commander-in-Chief, and the bar gets raised every day he resides in the White House. In the coming election, he’ll be seeking another four years as President.
But he got a rare vote of confidence from his expected opponent, at least as far the simple matter of age alone is concerned.
“Age is interesting because some people are very sharp and some people do lose it, but you lose it at 40 and 50, also,” former President Donald Trump said in an interview with SiriusXM Thursday. “But no, he's not too old at all.”
Trump, once again seeking his own second term as President and still considered by many analysts to be the presumptive Republican nominee despite a litany of legal issues, still had negative things to say about Biden’s tenure, but at 77 years old himself, he wasn’t about to condemn him on age alone.
He would go on to call Biden “grossly incompetent,” adding, “If you go back 25 years, he wasn’t the sharpest tack either.”
