While Stanley Cups went viral in the last year, quickly becoming the new top water bottle, a new Valentine’s Day version is creating a whole other level of mass hysteria.
In December, Target released the limited edition rose-and pink-colored stainless steel insulated tumblers, but in the weeks since, the store has had to limit how many customers can buy. Target said its Valentine’s Day collection is priced from $20 for the small tumbler to $45 for the 40 ounce Quencher.
Once they're gone, they're gone. No restocking.
Shoppers were met with “All Stanley Cups: limit is 2 per guest” signs when they went to find the tumblers at their local store.
Part of the reasoning for the limit was the number of tumblers being resold online at hefty price tags.
On eBay, prices are as high as $100, while on Amazon, they reached similar prices. A pair on Poshmark is selling for $250.
On social media, videos quickly went viral, showing customers lining up outside Target stores to buy the tumblers and even tussling in some of them.
The collection launched in Target stores nationwide and online on Dec. 31, the retailer told CNN.
In the four days since they have completely sold out.
Target shared that the items will not be restocked but that fans of the tumblers can expect more collaborations this year.
