Biden stimulus plan facing more Republican resistance

With Congress planning to take up President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus package next week, the White House is finding passage could be more difficult than anticipated.

The president has expressed a desire to approve the proposal with bipartisan support, but some Republican lawmakers are objecting to a handful of key items, including a boost in the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.

One potential option for the administration is the process known as budget reconciliation, but hopes remain for a more amicable agreement.

The Biden coronavirus relief proposal includes $1,400 individual stimulus payments to follow those sent out in the final days of the Trump administration.
