Through Wednesday, the Texas Secretary of State says 822,271 people had voted for a turnout of 4.63%.
"We're trying to encourage everyone [to vote], especially our newest voters, our students here at El Centro because they are our future, our present, to make sure their voices are heard," Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said.
Jenkins voted Thursday at El Centro with his daughter who recently turned 18.
"I'm really excited to use my voice and make a difference," Madeleine Jenkins said. "I think every vote counts."
The Texas Secretary of State says turnout among registered voters younger than 30 was just 25% in the 2022 election. Jenkins says he hopes to show young people the importance of voting and creating a habit of participating in elections.
"These are important propositions that really matter to the future of our state and our community, so I urge people to vote and read up on the propositions," Jenkins said.
To encourage young people to vote, Dallas College has voting centers at each of its campuses. Chancellor Justin Lonon explained that they hope the convenience can make voting easier both for students and people who live nearby.
"They've got life. They're busy, so we appreciate being able to have voting centers at our campuses," Lonon said. "We just want to make it easy for them to run downstairs, run upstairs, wherever the voting center is, and take a few minutes to vote."
Statewide turnout in early voting was 4.63% through Wednesday. In Dallas County, turnout was 2.64%.
Early voting continues through Friday. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 7.
