The leader of the right-wing militia The Oath Keepers, charged in connection with the insurrection at the US Capitol, wants his conspiracy sedition trial moved out of Washington D.C.
In court papers Stewart Rhodes makes arguments that have been made before, that he does not think he can get a fair trial in the Washington D.C. federal circuit.
Rhodes is charged with seditious conspiracy, an accusation that he led an effort to stop the US Congress from certifying the results of the Electoral Collage last year.
The filing says the pool of potential jurors in the Washington D.C. Circuit has become "poisoned," and that it will be impossible for him to get a fair trial given the amount of media coverage.
Similar claims have been made by other defendants. In the past those who have made arguments have failed to convince the court that media coverage has led to a biased pool of jurors, and the judges are forcing the defendants to wait until jury selection begins to make a claim.
