Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is backing a college athletic bill governing payments to athletes, often referred to as NIL, name, image and likeness money.

Yesterday, a House committee hearing chaired by Arlington Congressman Roger Williams heard testimony. For his own part, Williams likes the changes brought by NIL, saying "NIL has opened up fantastic new opportunities for entrepreneurial college athletes to look for different avenues to partner with big and small businesses. This not only allows these students to earn money but also allows them valuable business lessons that they can utilize after a time playing college sports."

Among those testifying a the hearing was TCU Athletic Director Jeremiah Donati who says NIL money is a big help to athletes from less affluent families who are able to use the income to support their families.

But Donati also cautions that there are many instances of athletes and their families are being exploited, deceived and harmed for others' personal gain in these NIL pursuits.
