This is the final week of the regular season, and the last pieces of the playoff puzzle are still waiting to fall into place. Some of this week's top games will decide district champions, while others will determine which teams get into the postseason party. So this week, we look at Ten Key Games AND Scenarios for Week 11.
GAME OF THE WEEK:
5AD1 #1 DENTON RYAN (8-1, 7-0) at 5AD1 #5 FRISCO LONE STAR (8-1, 7-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Two of the top teams in the state get together to decide the outright champion in 5-5A-1. Both teams come in on seven-game win streaks. Ryan's only loss is to 6A Denton Guyer in overtime. Lone Star's only loss is to Aledo. Dave Henigan is 98-11 at Ryan, while Jeff Rayburn is 90-23 at Lone Star. This is one of two blockbuster matchups involving teams ranked in the 5AD1 state top ten. The other is No. 2 College Station facing No. 10 Magnolia West. Both those teams remain unbeaten.
NORTH CROWLEY (6-3, 4-2) at HALTOM (3-6, 3-3) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
North Crowley is alone in third place going into this one. Haltom has lost two straight and is tied with Saginaw Boswell for the fourth and final playoff spot in 3-6A. Haltom needs a win AND a Boswell loss to get in.
HURST L.D. BELL (2-7, 2-4) at SAGINAW BOSWELL (4-4, 3-3) - 7 p.m. Friday
After starting the year 0-7, L.D. Bell has rallied to win their last two. If they beat Boswell AND North Crowley beats Haltom, there would be a three-way tie for fourth. Euless Trinity has clinched the top 6AD1 playoff seed in 3-6A, while Weatherford is the district's top seed in the 6AD2 bracket.
NORTHWEST EATON (7-2, 4-1) at KELLER TIMBER CREEK (3-6, 2-3) - 7 p.m. Friday
Eaton comes off a bye week and their playoff reservation is secure. Timber Creek and Keller Fossil Ridge are currently tied for fourth place in 4-6A, with Keller (regular season complete) a half-game back. A three-way tie for the final spot is possible.
COPPELL (4-5, 3-3) at FLOWER MOUND (4-5, 3-3) - 7 p.m. Friday
This is the week's most important game in 6-6A, as the fourth playoff spot is on the line. And the playoff fates of other schools also hinge on this one. If Coppell wins, they go to the 6AD1 bracket and Hebron goes 6AD2. If Flower Mound wins, they would go 6AD2 and Hebron would get bumped up to the 6AD1 bracket.
SOUTH GRAND PRAIRIE (6-3, 3-2) at ARLINGTON LAMAR (2-7, 2-3) - 7 p.m. Thursday
ARLINGTON (3-6, 2-3) at ARLINGTON BOWIE (2-7, 1-4) - 7 p.m. Thursday
SGP has clinched a spot. Lamar needs a win AND an Arlington loss to get in. Arlington clinches the fourth spot in 8-6A with a win OR an Arlington Lamar loss.
NORTH GARLAND (5-4, 2-4) at WYLIE (3-6, 3-3) - 7 p.m. Friday
GARLAND LAKEVIEW CENTENNIAL (4-5, 1-4) at ROWLETT (2-7, 2-4) - 7 p.m. Thursday
A Rowlett win AND a Wylie loss would leave North Garland, Rowlett and Wylie in a three-way tie for the final spot in 9-6A. Garland, Sachse and Naaman Forest have locked up playoff spots.
AZLE (7-2, 5-1) at JUSTIN NORTHWEST (7-2, 6-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
An Azle win this week creates opportunity for three-way tie with Justin Northwest and 5-1 FW Brewer for the district title. Also in 3-5A-1, Abilene Cooper leads Crowley and Granbury by one game for fourth place.
KENNEDALE (8-1, 6-0) at BENBROOK (6-3, 6-0) - 11 a.m. Saturday
Kennedale has won seven straight. Their only loss is to Midlothian Heritage. Benbrook has won six in a row - all in district play - after starting the season 0-3. Also in 6-4A-1, FW Dunbar and FW Western Hills meet to decide third place. That's important because the team that ends up in fourth would face Stephenville in the bi-district round.
KAUFMAN (7-2, 3-2) at 4AD1 #4 MELISSA (7-2, 5-0) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Kaufman comes into this one on a two-game losing streak. A Kaufman win would allow Argyle to share the 7-4A-1 title, although Melissa has clinched the district's top seed.
3AD1 #2 BROCK (9-0, 6-0) at PILOT POINT (7-2, 6-0) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
The winner takes the title in 4-3A-1. Brock claimed a 66-21 win over Pilot Point last year. The two schools met twice in 2019. Pilot Point won the district matchup, 20-14. Brock came back to take a 31-21 revenge win in the 2019 state quarterfinals.
