Because temperatures will be at or below freezing for much of the state all week, Governor Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency response resources.

These include the Texas Railroad commission, the Public Utility commission and the Department of Public Safety, among others. The weather is expected to get bad, as some areas may face disruptive snow, ice, and freezing rain, causing potentially dangerous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for North Texas beginning Thursday at 12 a.m. and running through 6 p.m. Friday.

Over the weekend, more than 700 Texas Department of Transportation personnel prepared for winter weather by pre-treating roads, bridges, and overpasses with over 500,000 gallons of brine and granular material.
