AAA Texas is predicting a third straight year of record travel over the Memorial Day holiday weekend and there are a number of reasons why.
Over 45-million Americans will be traveling this weekend and more than 3.7-million Texans will be as well.
Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas says it is a combination of lower gas prices and Covid lockdowns being long behind us.
"For Memorial Day, this is the third year in a row we've seen a record travel volume and because of so many people taking road trips, that is why we are seeing another record this year," Armbruster said.
Drivers will also welcome cheaper gas prices this year compared to years in the past.
"Air travel is a little more expensive but it's cheaper to drive this year than it was a year ago as far as gas prices go," Armbruster said. "That's also spurring some people to take that road trip and why we are seeing record travel."
The recording period for traveling started on Thursday but it goes through Memorial Day itself on Monday.
