Whether Texas Teachers get $4 billion in pay raises is now up to the Texas House of Representatives.
Senate Bill 26 unanimously passed out of the Texas Senate. It would provide $5 and $10,000 raises for teachers in smaller districts and $2,500 to $5,500 for those in larger ones. State Senator Brandon Creighton authored it.
"As the first bill in the Texas Teacher Bill of Rights, Senate Bill 2026, it tackles the financial challenges teachers face. But this is just the beginning," Creighton says.
Creighton says he's filing Senate Bill 27 on Thursday, which would help teachers deal with discipline, safety and training.
