Caterpillar to relocate headquarters to DFW

Texas has seen multiple big-name companies move their headquarters to the state in the past decade, and Caterpillar is the latest to join the movement.

Caterpillar Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, announced today that it will move its global headquarters to Irving, Texas, from its current location in Deerfield, Illinois.

CEO Jim Umpleby said the strategic relocation is motivated by profitability and sustainability.

“We believe it’s in the best strategic interest of the company to make this move, which supports Caterpillar’s strategy for profitable growth as we help our customers build a better, more sustainable world,” he said.

Caterpillar has had a large presence in the state of Texas since the 1960s. According to a release, the company will begin its transition to Irving in 2022.
