The golf team from the University of the Southwest, located in Hobbs, New Mexico, was returning from a tournament in Midland when a pickup truck crossed the center line on a two-lane highway and struck it head on, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.

DPS said the two people in the pickup truck and six students and one coach on the team bus died. Two other people on the bus were transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

One member of the University of the Southwest golf team graduated from Colleyville Heritage High School, but it was not immediately clear if that student was involved in the crash.

Counseling and religious services will be available to students, faculty, and staff on campus.
