A chance encounter with a burglary suspect led to an award for a Plano detective after the investigation uncovered a murder-for-hire plot.
Detective C. McEntire was investigating the “Grinch Crime Spree,” a series of burglaries in December, when he ran into 38-year-old Michael McCloud at a restaurant and struck up a conversation. During their exchange, McCloud revealed he wanted to kill his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.
McEntire arranged a meeting between McCloud and an undercover ATF agent, who later arrested him on charges related to the murder-for-hire scheme.
McCloud has since pleaded guilty. For his role in taking a dangerous suspect off the streets, McEntire was awarded the Meritorious Service Award.
