The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles says the fix for better service is better equipment.
The DMV insists updating its more than 30-year-old computer system would go a long way to making service more efficient. The executive director says most of the department's work involves vehicle titles and registration.
The current system holds records of every vehicle on the road in Texas, but it's old and has been patched together over the years, and is simply outdated.
A new system that is web-based would not only make the department run better. It could eliminate the need for many people to come to the office because they could take care of their business online.
