Elon Musk wants more control over a public beach in South Texas near his SpaceX launchpad.

SpaceX fans flood Boca Chica Beach, bringing security concerns to the southernmost tip of Texas. State Rep. Eddie Morales (D-Eagle Pass) wants the launchpad designated as "critical infrastructure," because it's home to more than just rocket launches.

"They are also where the United States Department of Defense develops game-changing technologies to further enhance national security," Morales said.

The move would put the facility in the same security category as airports and military bases. A separate bill, also before the state House this week, would give elected leaders in the newly-created town of Starbase the ability to close Boca Chica Beach anytime they want during weekdays.
