Enchanted Rock, one of Texas' most popular natural landmarks, is set to expand by 3,000 acres following a $43 million land acquisition funded through the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, approved by voters two years ago.
The newly acquired land, previously used for hunting, will be incorporated into Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the expansion will help protect the night sky and preserve the scenic viewshed in a region facing rapid development.
TPWD is also considering potential recreational opportunities for the new addition, with plans to gather public input before making any decisions.
