ERCOT has promised no rolling blackouts during this winter weather event, and so far, they've kept that promise.

KRLD has been bringing you updates on the statewide power grid's conditions. Consistently, demand has been below the committed capacity.

Ever since the winter storm of 2021, ERCOT has taken steps to increase grid reliability. However, some researchers, including Daniel Cohan at Rice University, says ERCOT shouldn't rest on its laurels.

"The population and energy demand have grown. If we were to have those weather conditions of 2021 again, we would have even more demand than we did then. Back then the grid came one-third short of having enough power to go around."

If anyone happens to have a power outage in their area today, it will be from a local issue, like ice bringing down a power line.
