The fight over the private land used for Fairfield Lake State Park continues and now Freestone County leaders are weighing in saying the state has no right to seize the land.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was not able to reach a deal to buy the property they had been leasing, and when the lease expired and it was put up for sale by Vistra Energy.
Shortly after a company called Todd Interests bought the property, but the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission voted to use the power of eminent domain to retake the land.
Freestone County Commissioners passed a resolution objecting to that. They sent a letter to the Parks and Wildlife Department saying it would be an infringement on private property rights, and that they're extremely disappointed in the actions by state officials concerning the park.
