The first presidential debate next year will be held in Texas, on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos.
There has never been such a debate in the Lone Star State. The event is scheduled for September 16th.
Texas State is the only university in Texas with a US President as an alumni. Lyndon B Johnson graduated from Texas State in 1930.
In a statement, University System Chancellor Brian McCall said this is an exciting time at Texas State and "we can't wait to showcase our great university before a global audience."
The school will need to raise some funds to cover the costs associated with the event - and they have appointed a former chair of the Texas State University System Board of Regents to lead that effort.
A total of four presidential debates are scheduled.
