From severe weather and a World Series win, to gun violence and an at-times contentious legislative session, 2023 featured plenty of major headlines-- including some interesting social media viral trends. Over the last two weeks of the year, KRLD is looking back at the stories that defined the year.
In 2023, the trend 'Girl Dinner' was big on social media.
"This is my meal!"-- It's the latest trend taking over social media. Women and men are showing off what they eat when they're alone and don't want to go grocery shopping or cook.
Girl Dinner is usually a little bit of this, that and the other says Cooper Clinic Dietitian Meridan Zerner. 'Girl Dinner' has generated more than 400 million hashtags, yet it's really not a new concept.
Men and women have been indulging in these types of "one-person" dinners for a long time. Registered Dietitian Amy Goodson says it can be an easy way to grab a meal.
Although its popular, Girl Dinner has also sparked some concern among nutrition and mental health experts who fear it could lead to poor eating habits or restrictive eating. Zerner advises to be intentional about what you put on the plate.
Goodson believes there are some benefits to Girl Dinner IF it's done right.
