Texas Governor Greg Abbott (Rep.) is calling on the Supreme Court to release its official opinion on the abortion decision.
Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s draft abortion decision being leaked, Abbott is now lobbying for the justices to make the court’s official opinion clear.
"Don't allow the bullying to occur on the streets, whether it be in front of the Supreme Court or around the United States, get it out now," Abbott said. "The public has seen it, get it out."
He says if the decision is to overturn Roe v Wade it would fall in line with Texas which is a pro-life state.
Meanwhile, Democratic candidate for Governor Beto O'Rourke was in Austin on Thursday talking about reproductive rights in Texas.
"This is something that is nearly universal in the state of Texas regardless of geography, of partisanship or any other differences between us," O'Rourke said. "People want our rights respected."
He says Texans know that the laws, that Abbott has signed, are wrong.
"Texas leads now, the developed world, in the rate of maternal mortality," O'Rourke said. "[Its] Three times as deadly for Black women in the state of Texas, because as we have closed down reproductive health care options, not only is it harder for a woman to get an abortion, but it's harder to get a cervical cancer screening or any kind of reproductive healthcare."
