An institute for Civil War history in Texas is slated to close its doors next month.

The building holding the Texas Civil War Museum in White Settlement is being sold off and the museum is ending operations. It opened in 2006 to maintain and showcase a family's collection of Civil War artifacts.

The Texas Civil War Museum has not been without controversy though. Critics have claimed it glosses over slavery and "serves as a propaganda machine for Confederacy history".

This museum was also the only one to offer a statue of Robert E. Lee removed from a Dallas city park in 2017. Museum operators say some artifacts not purchased before they close would be handed over to the Horse Soldier Antiques in Gettysburg Pennsylvania.
