The state's biggest city is preparing for the possibility of a measles outbreak.

City officials in Houston and officials in Harris County say the West Texas outbreak has not reached them yet, but they're aware it's a possibility.

Dr. Peter Hotez at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston says they're urging people to make sure they have received the measles vaccine. "It is a single dose that is 90 percent protective and two doses means 97 percent protective. It's not going to get any better than that," he says.

There will be several free measles vaccination clinics in the Houston area this weekend.
